Robert Munoz has been the head director of the Friendswood Junior High Bands since December of 1996. Mr. Munoz attended Klein Oak High School in Spring, Texas, and played in bands under the direction of Robert Hastings and Barbara Streit. It was then he decided to major in music at Sam Houston State University, where he studied Euphonium and Trombone with Dr. Henry Howey and wind conducting with Dr. Gary Sousa.
Now in his 13th year at Friendswood Junior High, the band program continues a tradition of excellence. Under his direction, the Symphonic Band has received the UIL “Sweepstakes” awards for the past 7 years. Bands under his direction have received “Best in Class” awards at the Spring HS Band Splashtown Festival. The students of the FJH Bands have received numerous awards including: Highest number of students in the Region 17 All Region Band, Highest number of Wind players in the Region 17 All Region Symphony Orchestra. In 2004, the FJH Band was selected as the 5th place runner-up in the state CCC Honor Band Competition. He is currently active as a judge and clinician, recently judging the Klein ISD Solo & Ensemble Contest, the Alvin ISD Pre-UIL Band Contest and being the first hired clinician for the Conroe ISD 6th grade Honor Band. Robert is currently the TMEA Region 17 South Zone Middle School Band Coordinator and the Texas Bandmasters' Association Region 17 Band representative.Robert has two wonderful daughters, Madison and Megan, who both want to be in "Daddy's Band" when they get older. He is a current member of TMEA and TBA.
